furniture

There are few greater pleasures than finding an old piece of furniture in its original state, especially with its original paint, however battered and rustic.

Layers of old paint, wood that has been scrubbed and polished for years, chairs that have twisted from the heat of the inglenook fire. These are the stuff of dreams (well ours anyway).

And we have a few principles when it comes to furniture ...

We never dip to strip - sacrilege. If its stripped either we did it by hand because there was really no alternative, or someone else did it.

We cry at the sight of badly re-painted furniture - no excuse. We see a lot of it. Just because it's been slapped with a quick coat of Farrow & Ball doesn't mean it's any good. Some pieces look better painted, but not at the expense of original paintwork and not unless done well. Too much filler and slap out there!

If it has a patina of age it stays. It took years of effort to get it like that, who are we to destroy it? No sanding, distressing, reworking or improving. The loss of genuine patina is nothing short of a tragedy. So the top faded by the window, love it. So it's all foot-worn down the leg, cherish it. So it's missing a bit, imagine it.

Hold on while I climb off this soap box.

You'll find all sorts of furniture at Drawer; the selection here will give an idea of what we have. The stock changes all the time, so do please call and see what's in.
