living

As the seasons change so should our living spaces.

Remember the days of the spring clean when the winter was washed away, the fire cleaned out and the spring flowers brought in?  No, nor do I, but it's not a bad idea to freshen up in March and cosy up in October.

Colours, moods and activities change with the season and each year brings the chance to live just that little bit differently. It's about being connected to the outside world, not living in a bubble that's the same 24-7-52.

Cushions, rugs and throws have always been an easy way to do it. You can re-use them in different combinations next year or the year after, so nothing is wasted.  But also change textures and shapes. Rich polished woods add warmth to winter, with candles and luxurious woolen blankets. Cool linen fabrics and hand made glass refract light in the summer.

Remember the smells too. Bring in some logs as the evenings get darker, and try richer smelling aromas. In spring follow the flowers and compliment their bouquets.

Are we begining to sound like a makeover programme?
